How vino.com Built a Quiet Command Center With Joan

Vino.com has spent years doing something deceptively simple: making wine easy to buy. As one of Italy's leading online wine shops, the Florence-based company ships millions of bottles each year to customers across more than a dozen European markets. Behind that simplicity sits a highly complex operation. Logistics, commercial performance, and customer experience all run in parallel, always influencing each other.

"We measure performance continuously," says Andrea Nardi Dei, Co-Founder and CEO of Vino.com. "Our culture is very data-driven. We use that visibility to improve every day."

We spoke with Andrea about how a single Joan device changed the way he leads and why the best technology is the kind you barely notice.

When the data is there, but checking it breaks your focus

E-commerce does not follow office hours. Orders come in at all hours, logistics moves throughout the day, and customer activity shifts quickly. For a CEO overseeing it all, continuous monitoring is not optional.

"If you don't actively look, it is easy to miss small warning signs until they become bigger problems," Andrea says.

Vino.com had strong business intelligence tools in place. Dashboards tracked key performance indicators in real time. The data existed and was good. But accessing it required opening a laptop, logging in, navigating to the right dashboard, and selecting the right view.

The process took only a few minutes each time, but it created constant interruptions and added unnecessary mental switching throughout the day. Over time, it made him feel like he was always working.

The moment a meeting room display became something else

Andrea first encountered Joan when Vino.com moved into new offices in central Florence. The team wanted a straightforward way to manage meeting room bookings and display room availability.

He was immediately intrigued by the device. A display that could show live data, stay readable at a glance, and sit quietly in a room without demanding attention? This was something worth exploring further.

"I understood it could do more than scheduling," he says. "It could become a command center for business visibility."

Why e-paper made the difference

The choice of display technology mattered to Andrea from the start. A bright LCD running continuously was never an option. Energy consumption played a role, but so did the way a bright screen pulls attention, whether you want it or not.

"And I wanted something that fits naturally into a space," he says. "The ePaper device is calm, minimal, and instantly readable."

Joan 13 offered exactly that. No glare, no light pollution, no visual noise. The screen stays readable at a glance without dominating the room. That balance made continuous monitoring feel compatible with everyday life rather than interrupting it.

A calendar by day, a command center by night

Andrea uses Joan 13 in two distinct ways depending on the time of day.

During office hours, the display shows his calendar and upcoming commitments without opening any applications or switching contexts. The information is simply there when he needs it.

Outside regular hours, the screen shifts to a live KPI dashboard for Vino.com. Order volume, logistics performance, live users on the site, daily targets. The view focuses on essential signals rather than on details. When everything moves within expected ranges, it reassures. When something shifts, it alerts without drama.

"It reinforces ownership, especially for someone like me who needs to maintain the full-picture view of the business," he says.

He has seen situations where a quick glance revealed something worth acting on. A dip in performance, a trend moving in an unexpected direction. Those early signals meant reaching out to the relevant team immediately rather than discovering the issue hours later.
